Grant graduated from the University of Otago in 1989. He is a member of New Zealand Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Financial Professionals of New Zealand. Prior to joining Trust Investments Limited, Grant spent nine years with the chartered accountancy firm of KPMG and has subsequently held various senior financial management positions in a range of industries.  Grant joined Trust Investments in 2002 as General Manager and was appointed Chief Executive in 2010.
